ASB continue to revolutionise the world of sport

Latest installations

ASB are proud to be able to announce the completion of three unique GlassFloor projects, one in the United States and two in the United Kingdom.

In a bright-yellow warehouse in Long Island City, New York, Court 16 were able to announce being the very first tennis club in the United States to own tennis courts with customisable LED marking lines. ASB installed a 663 m², light grey ASB MultiSports floor.

Across the pond, the University of Oxford’s new sports complex “The Acer Nethercott Sports Centre” were able to present their dark anthracite, 699,5 m² GlassFloor. With the state-of-the-art sports centre, the University begins a new chapter in the development and facilitation of top athletes from future generations of students.

Additionally, ASB created an eye-catcher of a different kind that welcomes colleagues and visitors at the Microsoft Campus in Ireland. A digital lake with a digital waterfall made of glass and LEDs gives the spacious atrium a futuristic touch. The ASB GlassFloor was adjusted in order to meet the particular requirements and offers unique event and presentation opportunities.

The University of Oxford – Oxford, UK

Named after Oxford graduate and Olympic medal winner Acer Nethercott, the state-of-the-art sports centre is part of a major redesign of the University’s sports facilities which are located on the historic Iffley Road.

A 699 m² ASB MultiSports floor illuminates the sports hall: The dark, anthracite sports floor enables teachers, students and athletes to display their desired court marking lines individually.

Jon Roycroft, the director of sport for the University of Oxford, said it would end the ‘spaghetti junction’ feel of regular sports halls where dozens of confusing lines intersect with one another. The hall will be available to rent by local clubs for tournaments and events, especially outside of term time when it will be less well-used by the University’s more than 50 clubs.

The LED marking lines include: Badminton, Basketball, Futsal, Football, Handball, Dodgeball, Football, Korfball and Volleyball.

Microsoft HQ – Dublin, IE

With the digital lake and digital waterfall, ASB GlassFloor designed a special construction for this flooring project with a pixel pitch of 25 mm, which not only ensures a homogeneous surface, but matches the architecture of the building and gives it a futuristic touch at the same time. The entire flooring surface of 80 m² was equipped with LED video elements and covered with patented glass that reduces reflection to a minimum.

Just like the lake, the waterfall consists of LED and glass elements. “For the waterfall, we provided a real cutting-edge service: a special laser technique ensures that the glass hardly reflects, and the glass surface can be used as a transparent balustrade with a height of 440 cm. This is the first solution of this kind worldwide.” says Christof Babinsky, Managing Director of ASB GlassFloor.

“This way we achieve a unique effect on anyone who enters the building – and Microsoft has numerous new possible uses of the atrium, such as transforming the spacious atrium into a monumental presentation surface.”
